Use of art to raise awareness amongst children
Chicsnet is empowering children to prevent the spread of covid-19 and safeguarding their rights and safety through the power of art in Makindye Ssabagabo municipality, Wakiso district.
Chicsnet believes that when children create their own paintings, it gives them a chance to reveal what they see, share what they think is unfair or unusual, record important events, or alter the world to suit their ideas. While many messages have been disseminated about the preventive measures of COVID-19, verbal messages are less appealing to children. Chicsnet’s innovative solution to this challenge involves making children produce and publish COVID-19 preventive messages through drawings and paintings, ie. Fabric design, graphic design, graffiti, and other art pieces. They easily understand this form of communication which in turn results in their adherence to the standard operating procedures thus protecting them from being exposed to the virus.
