Village TEACH Program
With the Village TEACH innovation, Elevate empowered parents to mobilize local resources and know-how to improve education quality in their community. Village TEACH is rooted in the conviction that local communities hold the keys to drive lasting change in their schools. Village TEACH empowers parents to mobilize local resources and know-how to improve education quality in their community. Elevate’s role is simply to establish and facilitate the structure to accelerate this ambition. Through the program, communities are:
able to identify school improvement priorities
able to develop Action Plans to achieve priorities
able to build skills to implement those action plans
energized to commit time, resources, and ideas to the action plans
During the COVID-19 lock-down, the program adapted by organizing parents in groups of 5 where they were tasked to come up with strategies to keep their children learning while at home. For example, some groups agreed to take turns buying newspapers so that their children would benefit from the learning section. The bought copy was shared amongst their children. Other groups had a parent take a day off to teach the children that belonged to that group.
