Tippy Tap
Handwashing for Everyone
Location: Somalia
Developer: World Vision
Funding Needed: $143,000
Tippy Tap is a mobile hand-washing station optimal for rural areas that encourages hygienic practices. When operated, the station simultaneously waters plants and is activated by a foot-controlled lever, creating a touch-free experience.
The Challenge
While handwashing is becoming more commonplace globally, the hygienic practice is often overlooked by policymakers and development practitioners in fragile states like Somalia. Hand-washing stations in rural areas are uncommon.
The Solution
Tippy Tap is an outdoor hand-washing station that allows users to grow plants while washing their hands. Tippy Tap is an innovative mechanism for combating the spread of COVID-19 since it encourages hand-washing and can be operated by a level pushed by the foot, creating a touch-free experience for the user. After continued watering, the seedlings in the plots below will grow and must be planted in the ground.
