Waste to Clean Energy
Localized closed loop energy solutions
Partners: Cordaid, Muni University, Wageningen University and Research, Semilla Sanitation, SkillEd, Caritas Arua Diocese
Goal: The Waste to Clean Energy project builds a full-fledged closed loop solution for biogas, compost and regreening in Arua area, and ensures that all activities can sustainably managed and operated by local entrepreneurs and the community. There have been many solutions attempting to provide renewable energy solutions in refugee settlements. Most of these solutions however, have not been sustainable. The “Waste to Clean Air” approach offers a circular, closed loop solution to the challenge of renewable energy, through combining sanitation and waste treatment to produce biogas and compost within a modular and mobile system.
