Watoto Are Tomorrow (WAT)
English training program for Refugee children
WAT provides refugee children in Kampala aged 7-17 who are unable to access school due to language barriers with the opportunity to attend a 3-month English training program. The program focuses on social skills while using fun, engaging and innovative lessons through comic books, videos, and tablets which support safe learning and improve communication and social skills. During the COVID-19 lockdown, WAT followed up with the children who work within their homes with comic books and tablets. They also organized workshops dubbed the watoto happy space once a month in Nakivale to support children who were worried about school reopening. They created this happy space by engaging these children with comic books and games.WAT has so far reached out to 176 children.
