RIL4U: “Creating Hope in Conflict: A Humanitarian Grand Challenge Innovation Basecamp” in Nairobi, Kenya
In partnership with Gray Dot Catalyst, Response Innovation Lab supported the planning and facilitation of “Creating Hope in Conflict: A Humanitarian Grand Challenge (CHIC) Innovation Basecamp” for Grand Challenges Canada in Nairobi, Kenya during January 20-24.
During the five days, we worked with 40 inspiring innovators implementing innovative solutions in humanitarian contexts, spanning proof of concept testing, through to those transitioning to scale. We delivered sessions on business and revenue models, evidence, value proposition, piloting, scaling and more, and supported the teams to develop high-level strategies. We facilitated conversations, connections, and learnings to envision the unlimited possibilities of innovations’ impact.
Two of our team members provided on-site support. “The CHIC Innovation Basecamp in Nairobi was a dynamic and insightful experience. As innovators addressing humanitarian challenges explored new concepts and tools, they were able to critically evaluate challenges and opportunities within their organizations and solutions. These tools sparked meaningful discussions and strategic thinking, while the interactive sessions encouraged collaboration, enabling teams to refine their approaches and develop clear strategies for scaling their impact,” commented our team member Brian Gitta.
“Innovation in humanitarian work isn’t just about new ideas—it’s about finding practical, sustainable solutions that truly serve communities, even in the toughest conditions,” said our team member Ruba Hijazi.
